John’s love of architecture/woodwork details is in his genes: carrying his Master Carpenter dad Joes’ tools on weekend jobs, some of his earliest memories are pounding nails into a 2 x 4 while Joe built custom cabinets for Beverly Hills, CA clients.
Following in his father’s footsteps, John became a Carpenter/Contractor and honed his skills in California before bringing them to New York, where he performed a number of Brownstone gut renovations in Harlem and helped rehab many more here in Brooklyn.
This experience serves John well as a Real Estate broker here in Brownstone Brooklyn. With his carpenter eye and Real Estate knowledge, John is uniquely qualified to talk about these architectural beauties, able to identify the a diamond in the rough or a money pit.
John’s been involved with many Brownstone transactions in his career, but his favorite is still his first: 545 3rd Street, a 4,000 sqft Brownstone that had had only two owners up until he sold it. Originally commissioned by an heir from Singer Sewing Machine family, the house was of classic Italianate styling and oozing with original details: 8’ Mahogany pocket doors with etched glass, white oak parquet flooring with mahogany horizontal ribbon borders, plaster dentil moulding and HUGE medallions, and raised oak paneling as far as the eye could see. The seller and John were both happy the building went to a family that really loved the details and preserved them while still updating the house—a perfect match!
A Brownstone Brooklyn resident since 1996, he fell in love with Park Slope, its buildings and its rich history at first site – he had come to pick up his future wife Camille Mazurek (nee Wiedorn) on their first date and thought, “I hope she’s cool because I really like this neighborhood.”
Needless to say, it worked out…
